Lisa Murphy is an IACP-accredited psychotherapist in private practice in Clontarf, Dublin 3. She holds an HDip in Psychology from UCD and an MSc in Psychotherapy from DCU, where she first trained in couples work. She is currently completing further professional training with the Institute of Couples Therapy.
Lisa sees couples of all backgrounds and relationship types. Common reasons people come to her include repeated arguments, damaged trust, difficulty effectively communicating about uncertainty about the future. Her approach is integrative, drawing on several models rather than one fixed method.
In sessions, she works with both partners equally. She helps couples recognise the patterns they repeat, where one person’s reaction sets off the other’s, and how earlier experiences, including family history, shape those patterns. The work focuses on understanding each other rather than trying to aportion blame, and on helping each partner decide what they want next, whether that is rebuilding the relationship or separating well.
