Let’s talk about sex!

How comfortable are you in talking about sex with your clients whether that be in individual or couples therapy? How familiar are you with the accurate terminology for our bodies and sexual exploration?

This workshop will help therapists have open frank conversations about sex through sex education for the therapists and also how to support clients to have a better sexual relationship.

You will learn:

  • how to communicate about sex respectfully and clearly
  • how to help clients to freely express what they like and dislike
  • support clients with their sexual wellbeing
  • how and why to confidently raise the topic of sex with your clients
  • getting some excellent, up-to-date sex education

Olivia will be covering:

  • The importance of having mental health practitioners who are interested and educated in psychosexual issues.

  • Educating participants on the accurate language to name our body parts, our sexual interests and desires, and our concerns.

  • Describing the inevitability of change in function and sensation due to issues such as age, illness, hormonal changes and disability.

  • The importance of sensory and psychological contributions to sex

  • Sexual response and Desire cycles

  • Fear cycles in sex

  • Barriers to sexual communication with clients, partners, peers, and healthcare practitioners

  • How to confidently raise the topic of sex with clients

Olivia Teahan

Olivia Teahan is a sex educator based in Cork city. Her work supports adults in Ireland to develop healthier, pleasurable connections to their own bodies and to others’. Olivia founded the Sx Sláinte project in 2023 to provide informative and engaging workshops and resources for adults of all demographics.

She is a trainee psychosexual therapist, and holds a Bachelor in Law and Masters in Public Health from UCC. She is passionate about addressing stigmatized health topics and has extensive experience in policy and community work on cancer awareness, women’s empowerment, harm reduction, migrant rights, and LGBT+ health.
She conducts workshops that offer concise, relevant, and shame-free perspectives on sex.  Her work has included research and support for women’s intimacy through menopause and sex after cancer.
