The Institute of Couples Therapy is a young and evolving training organisation. Founded by Karen Murphy in order to fulfil the need for quality couples therapy training in Ireland and beyond.

The organisation will provide you with the opportunity to be in the early years of the establishment of an exciting endeavour. This will give you the opportunity to be involved in working collaboratively in shaping the quality and professional trainings that therapists are looking for and that clients deserve. This will also mean that you will be most comfortable here if you come in with adaptability both willing to learn the approach and ethos of the ICT and also bringing your own unique talents and experience to the work.

We’re expanding our teaching and academic team at the Institute of Couples Therapy.
We’re currently inviting applications for two positions: Consensual Non-Monogamy Lecturer and External Moderator.

Both roles offer the opportunity to contribute to the professional development of therapists and to support excellence in couples therapy education.

Role: Lecturer in Relationship Therapy & Consensual Non-Monogamy

About Us

The Institute of Couples Therapy provides training for psychotherapists and counsellors who wish to specialise in relationship therapy. We are committed to delivering high-quality, professional and inclusive training that equips therapists to work with the full spectrum of relationship styles and dynamics.

Role Overview

We are seeking a skilled and knowledgeable Lecturer in Relationship Therapy with expertise in Consensual Non-Monogamy (CNM) and diverse relational structures. The successful candidate will join our faculty team to deliver engaging, evidence-based training that prepares therapists to competently and ethically support clients in CNM relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver lectures, workshops, and training materials on CNM and relationship diversity.
  • Incorporate clinical experience, research, and case studies into teaching.
  • Facilitate reflective discussions that challenge assumptions and build therapist competence.
  • Provide assessment and feedback to learners in line with programme standards.
  • Collaborate with the Institute’s faculty to ensure content is aligned with our relational, integrative approach to couples therapy.

Requirements

  • Recognised qualification in Counselling, Psychotherapy, Psychology, or related discipline.
  • Clinical experience in working with couples and/or relational systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in CNM, polyamory and diverse relationship structures.
  • Prior teaching, training, or workshop facilitation experience desirable but not essential.

Role: External Moderator

Programme: Postgraduate Diploma in Relationship Psychotherapy

Reporting to: Programme Director (Karen Murphy)

Purpose of Role

To provide independent oversight of the Postgraduate Diploma in Relationship Psychotherapy, ensuring that academic, clinical, and professional standards are upheld and that assessment processes are fair, transparent, and consistent.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality Assurance: Review course content and structure for alignment with COSRT, UKCP, and other relevant standards. Advise on curriculum and assessment development.
  • Assessment Oversight: Review and moderate assessment methods and student work (case studies, reflective assignments, end-of-year assessments) to ensure clarity, fairness, and consistency. Provide feedback on robustness of assessment processes.
  • Clinical Standards: Review evidence of student clinical practice and supervision to confirm integration of theory into practice. Advise on methods of assessing and recording competence.
  • Reporting and Feedback: Produce an annual written report summarising findings, commendations, and recommendations. Offer constructive feedback to programme staff on strengths and areas for development.
  • Independence: Operate impartially, without involvement in direct delivery. Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional ethics.

Person Specification

  • Experienced psychotherapist/psychologist.
  • Training, supervision, or examining experience at postgraduate/professional level.
  • Independent from the course team and programme delivery.

Term of Appointment

One year with an option to renew by mutual agreement.

Expected duties: review of assessments, annual report, and occasional observation of teaching/assessment days (if required).
